Memorial Day weekend 2009
This holiday weekend Dustin and I took off to Kansas for a VERY busy weekend. We arrived into Salina late Friday night, got up Saturday and Dustin helped his mom around the house. Around 1pm his sisters family arrived and I spent the rest of the day shopping with Lisa (sister). After that it was off to his 10 year reunion which was very awkward for me at times. :) In the end it was fun and Dustin was glad he went. Its just so crazy seeing people my age there with babies, and kids and being married and being pregnant. I have very really followed the crowd and I've always done whatever but being in that situation makes me wonder if I'm behind? But I don't think I am, just doing my own thing. Anyway, Sunday we headed out to the lake to meet his other friends and camped out. Believe it or not, it was my first time camping in a tent. But it went great and the weather was awesome! I could not have asked for a better first camping time experience. I tend to get cranky when I'm hot, so it was just right. We got up Monday morning, went back to Salina...watched bday presents get opened by his niece and ate bday cake, then hit the road for a long ride back. It was a good weekend! It made me a tad homesick for my friends and family, but that will be in a month, I'm so excited for Old Settlers!

Sydney's Wall Haning (finished)

Sydney's wall hanging
A bit of severe Wx
Friday night some good storms rolled through Champaign Co. I didn't have intentions of chasing the storms but when they are right in your backyard how can you not?! So I did. I drove about 10 miles south and watched a tornado warned storm but saw nothing. It was downgraded to a severe warn later. But main did it put down the rain! I didn't get home in time to beat it so I sat at a gas station and watched it poor and hail a little and it was lighting like crazy.

So it begins...
I knew there would be a time in my life where my friends would start getting married and growing up. And then I knew after that there would be a time where they would start having children...it has started! Don't get me wrong, its a great thing! But its just so crazy to think I'm at that age now where these things actually happen. :) But I am 27 and the youngest of most my friends so it only makes sense. Today Melissa had a baby girl, one of my oldest and closest friends! And so it begins the baby boom of 2009. Ok, there are only 2 friends having children...but its a lot to me, especially when they are my best friends. It's just so crazy to think that she is a mom now. And has a whole new HUGE responsibility. Life is just so crazy. Anyway, she had a little girl this morning at 3:14am, Sydney Kathryn Barlow! And she took my girl name...oh well, we'll just have kids with the same name someday. Its not like we will ever live in the same town anyway. Maybe the same state however. Melissa and Sydney are doing great all is well. Congrats Melissa, I can't wait to meet her!
Rewind to 8.5 months ago when I found out about Melissa's pregnancy...I decide to make her a quilt. My mom makes quilts and I thought it would be a good learning experience and I would get a look into one of my mom's favorite hobbies. Well its a big hobby! Time consuming! And expensive! :) But I made Melissa a baby quilt and in the end it turned out pretty awesome. I didn't blog about my progress because I wanted to keep it a secret and a surprise for Melissa. But now I can put them up, below are the final pictures of it. Who knows, maybe this will lead to other projects!

Kirby Derby Trophy!
As many of you read, I finished a 10k this past Saturday. Well I have an update. On Monday I emailed the race director to check my time. And she writes back with my time and says "you finished 3rd in the 25-29 age group, apparently you left before the awards?". I GOT A TROPHY! I really didn't expect to finish 3rd in my age group. But when there aren't many people in it...that's what happens. :) But you know what, I don't care if there were only 3 people in it, or 20, or 100. I was out there running my ass off! So I deserve it no matter how many or how little people were in it. Anyway, after the race was over I just told Dustin we could leave because I was sure I didn't get award...I missed my name being called. :( Oh well, I still have a trophy!

Kirby Derby 10k
This morning I ran the Kirby Derby 10k in Monticello, IL. Its about 20 miles west of Champaign. The race went well. I think my time was around 1:11...but the results aren't up yet so I'm not completely sure. This was the longest I have ran since the half marathon in September. Speaking of half marathons I ran my first half 2 years ago this weekend. I can't believe its been 2 years!! I've come along way and I don't see my races ending anytime soon.
