NASCAR at Chicagoland

This weekend Dustin and I headed up to Chicago for some NASCAR and city life. It was a unique mix....NASCAR/rednecking at night....city living in the day! I'm too tired to write a huge post so I'm just going to let the pictures talk for themselves.

PS. Blogger picture uploading still sucks, I should get a new blog host! The pics aren't in any order now.

Old Settlers 2009

Another Old Settlers and come and gone and it was a busy one! I have a feeling this blog is going to be mega huge, but there are lots of things to talk about and lots of subjects. So here it goes...

Thursday (June 20th): I hop in my little red Mazda and head down the interstate to Nebraska. I arrived in NB a little after 3pm. Kris, Lyn and the girls got held up in Lincoln after flying so they got there around 4pm. That night was just a lot of catching up, playing with the nieces and settling in.

Friday: Get up and go take family pictures! They turned out awesome. Hopefully I'll be able to post some of them sometime. But right now they are just proofs. The little girls were so good and behaved really well and he got some really cute pictures of them in their Husker outfits! Friday night Dustin arrived from Kansas. He had been helping his dad with wheat harvest, I hadn't seen him in 10 days so I was very happy he made it to NB! We ended up at the bars in NB catching up with some old friends. I couldn't believe downtown NB. There were many beer gardens with bands and you could hear music all over the streets. It was very festive and almost downtown Lincoln like! Odd.

Saturday: I didn't do the 5k this year. :( I just haven't been up on my running and wasn't in the mood to get up early to go and run. I also had a slight headache for some reason from the night before...weird. Anyway, at noon Jamie, Renae, Dustin and I played a golf scramble. It was the first time we did it and it was a lot of fun! I was horrible. I also pouted cause I was horrible. By the end of the game it wasn't too bad. I think I need different clubs and might also need left handed clubs (Dustin and I discovered this a few days later). Later that night I had my 10 year reunion. It was rather boring. No one showed up to the reunion that I was like "omg, i haven't seen them forever!!". Most of the people there I have seen off and on through out the past 10 years. But it was still good to go. After that we headed up to the beer garden and finished off the night.

Sunday: Parade day! Really the parade isn't that excited but its what goes on. Melissa and Sydney also came to NB that day. As always, Sydney is sooooooo cute!!! And now she is smiling and actually making eye contact with you, so its fun. I can't wait till I see her again! After the parade Dustin and I decided that we had beer garden tickets to use up so we headed back to the garden. Now this usually happens and I don't know why I don't learn...but the Sunday afternoon beer garden always sneaks up on me! Yes, I got drunk. It turned from one beer at 4pm to multiple till about 11pm. Ack! But it was great fun...it is way more easy to socialize at the Sunday beer garden. That night us siblings and sig others all hung out together and it was awesome! I think I'll remember that the most out of that weekend.

Monday: Dustin and I had to book it to Lincoln to look at houses. We probably looked at 5 or 6 and found 1 that we really liked. However, there is a still a bit more time to look. I prompted to freak out later that day after I found out I got rejected from another job. I just felt like crap and was completely down on the situation. Dustin was very supportive and tried to tell me it would be ok and I calmed down somewhat. He left to go back to Kansas and I met up with Tigh, Nikki and Becky! from Chicago. We had a few drinks and it was so good to catch up with old friends. I miss them like crazy!

Tuesday: I had brunch and shopped with mom after she dropped the Bedsaul family off at the airport. :( Then later that day I went to campus to beg for a job and try to figure out something. I talked with 3 people. The first turned into talking about going back to school. The 2nd was actually decent and I'm minimally hopefully I could maybe get a job at his institution. The 3rd was a visit with Dr Dewey. It was great chatting with him and I hope he can help me find a job. I left campus feeling a ton better than I did the day before and I'm hopeful that something will work out.

Wednesday: I went to WW in Lincoln and weighed in, I also got to see my old leader! I'm not sure if she remembered me right away, but by the end of the convo I think she did. She told me that they are always looking for subs and could use help on Saturdays and Thursdays...odd...thats what I work here. :) After that I took off to Kansas and partook in my first ever wheat harvest. Its very much like corn/beans harvest....just wheat. Dustin and I mostly hung out with Nick and I finally got to relax for the first time in a week!

Thursday: Dustin and I golfed, which is when I discovered my clubs SUCK and that I probably need news one. Oh and I bet him on one hole. :) Later that day we hung out with Nick and Andrea.

Friday: Another semi relaxing day before the big 4th of July (on the 3rd) blowout at Nicks. We went there around 6pm, stayed till 330am...because I threw a cranky pants fit. I just can't drink late into the night anymore. All of Dustins friends can keep going, but I'm such a wuss, I totally wussed out. But I thought I did well! Next time I'm setting up camp in Nicks...or the car...or just driving back. :)

Saturday: Packed up and headed back to Dustin's in IL.

The trip was great fun and awesome seeing friends and family! I am so glad that will be the last monster trip I need to make back...ever, well hopefully for a very very very long time. Right now I'm just focusing on finding a job and hoping Dustin sells his house. I hope one of those can work out otherwise we are in bad shape. Things happen for a reason and I just keep trying to tell myself that.

Lake of the Ozarks

I'm a tad behind on my blogging...last weekend Dustin and I went camping at the Lake of the Ozarks. We went with his friend Dan and his gf. It was a really good time! Dan has 2 jet skis, I have never ridden on one or driven one. I think I was screaming the first 20 mins and I continued to scream even when I was driving. Oh well, it was a great day at the lake and the weather was beautiful!

Getting the 13.1 itch

I'm getting the itch to sign up for another half marathon. I don't know if it would be wise however with all this moving and stress. But it would keep me on track! The Omaha half marathon is Sept 27th. The only thing I'm not fond of is that the last couple weeks of training...well it will be very dark in the mornings, which is when I like to run. Last year for the Chicago half it was getting dark for my last weeks of running. Plus with the moving, its going to be stressful to get it in. The plus side...I'm moving back to Lincoln and know the area and it should be easy to find a running route. Oh decisions!

Barlow family visit

On Thursday Melissa, Heath and baby Sydney stopped in Champaign on their way to Indiana to see Melissa's family. It was the first time I saw Sydney and she is CUTE! It was also very good to see Melissa, I hadn't seen her since Christmas. At least now I'll be closer to them when I move back!

There is no place like Nebraska...

Most of you have probably heard the news by now...I'm moving home! I know, its pretty crazy, but it's happening. I am excited and I have a lot of mixed emotions running through me now. I suppose I should tell how this all happened. A couple months (March) ago Dustin told me that the Nebraska territory for his job was opened. At this time he was just considering it, that maybe he would try for it, maybe he wouldn't. Then in April, Easter weekend, he told me that his boss asked him about the Nebraska job and if he would be interested. Which Dustin told him that he is and it would be nice to have and that if the opportunity came about he would take the territory. When Dustin told me this I was extremely excited but I was instructed by Dustin not to get too excited or tell many people. However, within a week everyone knew. :D Over the past month nothing much was said about the Nebraska job. He was thinking that he wouldn't get it with things going on in the company. And he thought it might take a year before they would fill it. So over the month I put it out of my mind until Wednesday when I got a call from Dustin saying he got offered the position. It hit me like a ton of bricks! So this past weekend we talked about it, weighed our options and now will be moving to Lincoln. I usually don't get too personal in my posts on my blog, but this is a big deal and obviously if I'm quitting my job to move with Dustin...well things are decently serious.

Its been hard for me to have to tell people at work I'm leaving. I have really enjoyed Illinois and I really really like Champaign. It was the first place that felt like home since I left my first home...Nebraska. And we all know I have issues moving and that it has been hard, but I really seemed to settle in here. And as for my job...well I don't hate it. First time that has happened since college as well. But through my multiple moves and multiple jobs I have learned one thing...being alone sucks. I am a rather independent person, but going to DC to have a job all alone and go home to no friends, no family, no boyfriend really got old after awhile. And in the end, the job wasn't that great anymore. And now it seems like things are falling into place. Even before I met Dustin I always knew I wanted to be closer to home, but if I ended up in Illinois that was ok too. And when I met Dustin I had in the back of my mind if things worked out how great it would be that we are both from the same region. And now...the opportunity has come and how can I pass it up? I can't. But still...its hard to change, especially for us Schindlers. And its hard for me to return with nothing lined up for a job. I always seem to land on my feet and I'm working really hard with my connections back in Lincoln to find something. For the past 27 years its always been "shelley shelley shelley" but if I want any sort of mature relationship, that is going to have to change. This will be a great step for Dustin and I...and its a big one. But we have both decided we are ready and it needs to be done.

So as for now the tenative date to arrive in NE is mid August. And until then I will probably be freaking out. :) But I have a feeling once I find a job the freaking out will cut in half. But it will be good to be back in Nebraska near my friends and family with Dustin.

Memorial Day weekend 2009

This holiday weekend Dustin and I took off to Kansas for a VERY busy weekend. We arrived into Salina late Friday night, got up Saturday and Dustin helped his mom around the house. Around 1pm his sisters family arrived and I spent the rest of the day shopping with Lisa (sister). After that it was off to his 10 year reunion which was very awkward for me at times. :) In the end it was fun and Dustin was glad he went. Its just so crazy seeing people my age there with babies, and kids and being married and being pregnant. I have very really followed the crowd and I've always done whatever but being in that situation makes me wonder if I'm behind? But I don't think I am, just doing my own thing. Anyway, Sunday we headed out to the lake to meet his other friends and camped out. Believe it or not, it was my first time camping in a tent. But it went great and the weather was awesome! I could not have asked for a better first camping time experience. I tend to get cranky when I'm hot, so it was just right. We got up Monday morning, went back to Salina...watched bday presents get opened by his niece and ate bday cake, then hit the road for a long ride back. It was a good weekend! It made me a tad homesick for my friends and family, but that will be in a month, I'm so excited for Old Settlers!

Sydney's wall hanging

Here is my recent project....a wall hanging for Sydney. I'm struggle with the finishing, wish my mom was here to help!

A bit of severe Wx

Friday night some good storms rolled through Champaign Co. I didn't have intentions of chasing the storms but when they are right in your backyard how can you not?! So I did. I drove about 10 miles south and watched a tornado warned storm but saw nothing. It was downgraded to a severe warn later. But main did it put down the rain! I didn't get home in time to beat it so I sat at a gas station and watched it poor and hail a little and it was lighting like crazy.

It flooded my driveway to my apartment

A nice shelf cloud

There could of been a wall cloud in there...
