My birthday weekend!

This saturday I turned 27! Yup 27! Whatever, we won't get into how close I am to 30 now...this for sure means i'm in my late 20's, wonderful. Anyway, it was a great weekend. I have a bunch of great friends here and friends from back home. Friday night after work we (Leslie, Eric, Athena, Tim, Becky, and I) went to eat at Billy Barooz's. After that we went to Jupiters, which is a little more "barish" or something. They have pool tables and outdoor seating. The two brothers from my softball team showed up and 2 of their friends. My co worker Mike came also, and my old co worker Charlie and his wife. Anyway, I was doing ok with my beer until one of the brothers mentioned that they recently played P&A...which is a drinking game called Presidents and Assholes...which was my FAVORITE back in the day. Well one of them went home, got cards, and came back. I couldn't remember how to play but after 1 practice round, I smoked all of them (all guys by the way) and was president for the next 5 hands! :D It was a great time. However the next morning was not. I was quickly reminded that I turned 27, not 21 due to the severity of my hangover!!!!!

Anyway, Saturday a group of us went to Kickapoo and went tubing. The water was pretty low, but not like the Platte River. We ended up walking a bit of it, but it was good time. I think we got back to Champaign by 4 or so. I was so spent I didn't even want to venture to the sweetcorn festival in Urbana. Yes you heard that right...sweetcorn. I took a shower, open my cards and gifts sent in the mail and took a nap! I went to bed decently early because I had to get up and run 9 miles today. And I did. And I kicked its butt! I just love it when I have good runs like that, I was in such a zone at miles 5-7 I really thought I could run 26 miles. ;) Maybe I got inspiration from watching the marathon from the Olympics or something. So a day after turning 27 and I can go out there and kick out 9 miles. I couldn't do that 2 years ago. It was a great run!

All in all I couldn't of asked for a better birthday weekend! Last year was pretty lonely in DC, I didn't do anything and didn't really have friends. Its crazy how things change in a year. Thanks to everyone that sent gifts, card, text message and called!!

Abe's Amble 10k

This past Sunday I drove to Springfield to run in a 10k. Lucky for me, the weather rocked! Finally I got a break in crappy race day weather. The race went decently well but there were hills...lots of them...and they hurt. I'm not used to hills. Champaign is FLAT! All of it. And turns out Springfield has some rolling hills, kinda like in south Lincoln. But I ran it all and it was tough. I finished in 1:11, I wanted to finish faster but once I found the hills, I knew it wasn't gonna be a PR race.

Anyway, here is the link to my results!

Here is a good blog, some guys wrote about the race...

8/10/08

Well its been forever since I've wrote anything. But not much is going on lately. I still am slightly busy but just the same ol things.

My half training is still going decent, but I think I'm getting to the point where its getting old. My half is about a month away (Sept 14th). However I'm still excited about the race itself! I have a 10k on the 17th in Springfield and will probably be the last race before the half. The way its looking I think it's just Tigh and I running the half. It's going to be pretty big, there are 13,000 runners in this thing!

Other than that, only 3 weeks left until football!! Next weekend is the 10k, the next weekend is my bday, and the next is FOOTBALL! Heck yes.

Anyway, I don't have much to write and I don't have any fun new pictures so I guess this will have to do for now.

College Football Fever

Its here...and I got it bad! I'm so ready for college football season its not even funny! This past week I've been reading articles, looking at blogs, looking at schedules. I zeroed in on the Illini games I want to try to go to. I've been looking at all the new Husker apparel online, deciding what I want. And today...the icing on the cake...I got my football tickets to the first Husker game!!!!! About a month ago I got my Nebraska Alumni Assoc newsletter thingy, and inside was a request for football tickets. It was only one game and just a pair of tickets. So my first choice was the first game. I really didn't think I'd get them being it was a lottery system. Today, I got the confirmation email...I got the tickets! I'm so pumped, so excited!

Everyone should check out this blog I found. http://thecollegefootballguys.blogspot.com/ I'm not a fan of the football girls thing, but whatever guys will be guys. The podcasts are pretty good also.

41 days till kickoff!

A trip home!

I just got back from a week trip back home to Nebraska, as usual it was busy!

Wed: I got up and ran (I'm very dedicated to this half training) and hit the road a little before 8am. I went through northern MO, the way I've taken most times. I got into Lincoln around 3:30 and went to Tigh's office. We hung out for a little, then met up with Nikki after she got off work and ate. After that I headed to NB.

Thur: Got up and ran my 3.5 miles in NB, which is tricky since the radius of the town is barely 3 miles. So I ran out to the cemetery and back. After lunch, Mom and I headed up to the grandparents. They are cleaning out their house...just because. And it was almost like a treasure chest, the whole house. I ended up keeping my moms old records from the 70's. Waylon and Willie, Johnny Cash, etc. It was pretty awesome. Then my grandma also had kept the Fremont Tribune from the day JFK was assassinated which was crazy. So I took that as well. We headed back to NB and then Jamie and Renae went to NB to eat w/us.

Fri: Renae highlighted my hair in the kitchen which then turned into a major issues with no where to really rinse my hair. We ended up outside with a garden hose, hehe. After that was done I hightailed it to O'Neill so I could hang out with Melissa. Now I've been to Ewing 3 times in my whole life, 2 out of the 3 times I've stayed up late enough that it was getting light out in the morning! I don't know how this always happens, but it does. And I usually drink too much beer and never get enough sleep, but its always so much fun!

Sat: I took off from Melissa's around 3 and got to NB, took an hour nap which was MAJORLY needed, got all dressed and headed to Lincoln. There the Lincoln crew gathered downtown for some more drinking, which wasn't too crazy.

Sun: Nikki, Tigh, I, Eric, and Ann ate at ihop and I told them good bye and headed back to NB. Which I promptly took another nap so I could somewhat function that afternoon. Christina and I went to the swimming pool later that day. It was good to chat with her, we didn't get to hang out too much this time. That night I got my 5 mile run in. I had to run to Morse Bluff to get it done, which seems like a long long run when I'm running to another town, but its only 2 miles away. I was rather proud I did that run with not many issues after the long weekend.

Mon: Got up and helped mom with a few things and headed back to Champaign. I got in around 6:30 and had time to settle in and get things organized.

It was a really fun trip home. Just the right amount of time, not too long, not too short. As always...enjoy the pictures! The next time I go home is in 46 days...why do I know that you ask? Well its FOOTBALL! It must be that time of year because all my friends that are freaks about it are talking about it, not even the ones that live in the state. I can't wait for college football to start!!!!!!!!
